Department of Agricultural Education & Studies

Bachelor of Science

Undergraduate Student

Name: Cliff Dolbeare
Home: Pleasant Hill, Illinois
Club involvement: I have served as President and Treasurer for the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow Club. I have been active in the Collegiate FFA Chapter here at ISU. I have been involved with Military Mail Call, a group which collects donations to send care packages to Iowa troops deployed overseas. I have served as Vice President and Secretary for the ISU Rotaract Club. I am also a cadet in the Army ROTC program here on campus.

Internship: I interned with GROWMARK in Bloomington, Illinois this past summer. I worked in the Corporate Communications and Marketing Services department. Through the internship I was responsible for a variety of activities. The majority of my work, however, involved promoting a rewards trip to the tropics for salesmen and women.

Why did you choose agricultural education- communications? I chose Agricultural Education-Communications because I knew I wanted to remain involved in agriculture and be able to connect and interact with people. I feel that the communications portion of my degree will prepare me for a career in which I can successfully work and relate to others in the agriculture industry.
What surprised you the most about Iowa State? I was most surprised by how open and friendly both the campus and faculty and staff feel once you are living on campus. Everyone wants to help you make the most of your college experience. I know mine will be, in large part, because of the care and compassion of my professors, instructors, and advisor.
What advice do you have for incoming students? There are so many opportunities on campus. Don't wait to get involved, jump in. You'll be able to find something that interests you. And if you don't, you have the resources to make opportunities to get involved.
How did you transfer from John Wood Community College in Quincy, Illinois fit with the Department of Agricultural Education & Studies? I was unsure of what I wanted to major in, but Agricultural Education-Communications fits me perfectly. And all of my community college courses have flowed smoothly into the AgEdS curriculum and requirements. It as though I get to mold my degree around my interests and skills.
