W. Wade Miller, Professor
Ph.D. (1980) Texas A & M University; Appointment: 75% teaching, 25% research. W. Wade Miller is a Professor at Iowa State University and holds a joint appointment in the Department of Agricultural Education & Studies and the Department of Curriculum & Instruction. Miller is originally from Texas. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1974. He taught agriculture and horticulture at the high school level and operated a nursery/landscape business for three years. He earned a Master’s degree through distance education at Stephen F. Austin State University while he was teaching. He returned to Texas A&M University in 1977 as a teaching assistant and later became an instructor in agricultural education. He worked on his Ph.D. degree at the same time. He joined the faculty at ISU upon completion of his Ph.D. in 1980 replacing Dr. Gary Briers who returned to Texas A&M. Miller teaches courses in instructional technology, distance education, and learning theory. He is an agricultural education teacher educator. In addition, he participates in a cohort Master’s program for community college instructors. His research focus area is in distance education models utilizing instructional technology. Miller's international interests led him to work on a project designed to provide professional development to agriculture teachers in Costa Rica in 1985 and 1987. He worked with the government of Campeche, Mexico to provide agricultural mechanics training for agricultural workers in 1987. He also participated in a globalization of education project in Japan in 1990-91. He helped coordinate a Pesticide Safety Training Program for Peace Corps volunteers in Costa Rica in 1991-92. Beginning in 1994, he was the agricultural education representative for a faculty exchange project between ISU and the National Agriculture University of Ukraine (NAUU). He received an Honorary Professorship with NAUU in 1998. Miller is a long-time member of AIAEE. He served as Treasurer from 1992-94 and was President in 2000-2001.
