Ag Studies Transfer Peer Mentors Introductions

Hello Cyclones!

Welcome to the College of Agriculture and Life Science at Iowa State University, and welcome to AGEDS 110!  Alyssa McMichael, Joy Van Wyngarden, Nick Halbur, and Mollee Patten will be your peer mentors in the fall, and we hope that you have had an awesome summer!  We are all very excited that you have chosen to continue your education at Iowa State, and we are thrilled to welcome you to the Department of Agricultural Education and Studies!  We cannot wait to meet you and have the opportunity to work with you!

As you start your adventure at Iowa State, AGEDS 110 is an orientation is an introductory class designed to help you  get acquainted with your major and Iowa State as a whole; we have many activities planned during the first few weeks on campus including a New Student BBQ with free food and a club fair, visiting the Jack Trice Stadium, and attending the CALS Career Fair. These are all great opportunities to get to know your peers, professors, advisers, and other industry professionals, and we highly encourage each of you to network and create your own connections while here at Iowa State. You will also have an opportunity to work on your resume as well as develop a 2 year plan that helps you decide which classes you will take and when you will take them in order to complete your degree. In addition to these activities, we will also have plenty of guest speakers to introduce you to different aspects of the university including clubs and organizations, campus resources, and professionalism.

As your peer mentors, we are here to help you with your adventure as a transfer student at Iowa State! We are your resource to answer any of your questions, give you tips and tricks to life as a cyclone, and help you be as successful as possible. We personally understand both the fun, exciting aspects as well as challenges that you will experience during your first semester, and we hope that our own experiences and advice can help guide you to have a smooth transition and an amazing first semester at Iowa State! The best piece of advice we can give before you get here is to get involved as soon as you get here!

Now that you know a little more about the orientation class and how your peer mentors are able to serve you, the next page contains some information to help you get to know us better and provide you with our contact information.  Again, we look forward to meeting each of you and cannot wait to work with you this fall! If you have any questions over the summer, please do not hesitate to reach out!

Have a great rest of your summer, and see you in August!
